Multi Panel Configuration – Trim Wheel

Did you read this article? We will start at point 12 where we now will address the function of the Trim Wheel on the Saitek Multi Panel.

You should have had enough exercise with the previous configurations, so activate SPAD and get to the Trim page as in the image below. Set the acceleration slider to Max.



In FSUIPC set 64,6 to Elev Trim Dn and set 64,8 to Elev Trim Up

In both cases check the box Control to repeat while held

Done. Check the working in the Cockpit – Center Pedestal View




Multi Panel Configuration – Flaps

13. In SPAD press the Flaps tab in the menu screen SPAD- Multi Panel Configuration.
Set the values of the Up and DOWN position as in the image below.pmdgspad0314. Press Click (for UP) and set in FSUIPC the Joy# 64 2 Btn# to Flaps Decr
15 . Press Click (for  DOWN) and set in FSUIPC the Joy# 64 3 Btn# to Flaps Incr

PMDG 737 NGX – Landing Gear

After a number of basic articles explaining how to use SPAD and the Saitek Panels, we now want to dig in the useability of SPAD with PMDG and especially the landing gear function on the Saitek Switch Panel

pmdgspad01This is your departure: Start FSX with the Saitek Panels connected, activate SPAD or else, if you have told SPAD to warn you when a new aircraft is launched, you get this picture:

In SPAD the Default Profile is chosen. Say OK for now. First we will add a new profile for using SPAD with PMDG.

  1. Double click the SPAD icon in the system tray.
  2. Select the General tab and then Manage Profiles where you activate the tab Aircrafts
  3. You will find the line Boeing 737-800NGX PMDG House. OK?
  4. Now activate the tab Profiles and create a profile named Boeing737800NGX (without spaces or special char’s!)
  5. Close with OK, activate tab Aircrafts, double click your Boeing 737-800NGX PMDG House, select the new made profile from the drop down menu and close with OK.
  6. Close the Profiles Configuration screen with the “X” or Alt+F4
  7. The profile in use is now indicating  Boeing737800NGX
  8. When at this point there is no indications on the 3 panels, Quit SPAD, re-connect the USB connectors of the panels  (listen to the Windows Sound Identification of Hardware Disconnected/Connected) and then re-activate SPAD again.When successful at this stage, you have this:

  10. You have FSUIPC installed and registered.
  11. Get in FSX->Add-ons->FSUIPC->Buttons + Switches tab-> check box Profile specific? Check! Profile attached. Read the menu line FSUIPC Options and Settings – PMDG800
  12. Double click the SPAD icon in your system tray, select SwitchPanel 1 tab and select the Setup button.
  13. In SPAD press Gear Up button and set virtual Button N to “0”
  14. Set Event when switched OFF to No Event and
  15. Set Event when Switched ON bullet to FSUIPC Virtual Button ( 64, 0 ) and press the Click button
  16. In the FSUIPC menu the check box Select for FS Control is now checked and in the drop down menu below Control sent when button pressed you select Gear Up
  17. Next step…
  18. In SPAD press Gear Down button and set virtual Button N to “1”
  19. Set Event when switched OFF to No Event and
  20. Set Event when Switched ON bullet to FSUIPC Virtual Button ( 64, 1 ) and press the Click button
  21. In the FSUIPC menu the check box Select for FS Control is now checked and in the drop down menu below Control sent when button pressed you select Gear Down
  22. Close all screen and check the working of the landing gear.

Saitek Switch Panel

This article will deal with the Saitek Switch Panel.

As in the other articles, connect the Switch Panel, start FSX with a C172 @ EHEH, activate SPAD with the Cessna Profile, double click your SPAD icon in the system tray and select the SwitchPanel1 tab. You observe the running lights from the Radio Panel, the Multi Panel and then the Switch Panel.

REMEMBER: SPAD is developed for single engine prop aircraft!
The C172 does not have a retractable gear, so that won’t work…we will use the GEAR UP /GEAR DOWN for the parking brake. Wait and see how this will be accomplished. First of all, check the functions of the switches. Set all the switches in the OFF position including the selector to start the engine.

OK, there we go:

  1. First we will change the function of the GEAR UP/GEAR DOWN handle into a handle for setting the parking brake. Select the Setup button of the Switch Panel and then tab Switches. We will decide that “GEAR UP” equals Parking Brakes released and “GEAR DOWN” as Parking Brakes Set.
  2. In the switched menu of SPAD select the button Gear Down; then set the bullet below to FSUIPC Virtual Button
  3. In FSX, go to Add-ons and activate the FSUIPC menu; select the tab Buttons + Switched and check box Profile specific.
  4. Now in the SPAD menu, press the button Click below Send Button to Flight Sim
  5. Then in the FSUIPC menu search for a line “Parking Brakes” below Control sent when button pressed.
  6. Understand that the number of Joy (64,0) is the same information that is visible in the SPAD menu
  7. If the brake handle is working in reversal, then hit the period key on the keyboard. You can observe that in t e virtual cockpit.
  8. The C172 has 1 engine so the Engine Starter Modus tab remains on Only Engine 1
  9. OK, done! Gear Down SET
  10. Now the multi panel: set master switches to on
  11. Select START with the selector and after the engine has started, place the selector in the BOTH/ALL position
  12. Activate the AVIONICS MASTER Switch: Radio Panel and Multi Panel will be activated.
  13. If it is dark, set PANEL lights ON
  14. Set BEACON ON
  15. Set NAV ON
  16. Set STROBE ON
  17. TAXI ON if you will taxi
  18. LANDING lights on @ departure
  19. PITOT HEAT ON when it is cold…
  20. Set Multi Panel and Radio Panel as in the other articles
  21. Full throttle, GEAR UP ..oeps RELEASE PARKING BRAKES
  22. Set in FSX the Visual Flight Path ON  (in Aircraft) to see what is happening @ EHVK approach.

Saitek Multi Panel

spad10After the focus on the Radio Panel and general setup, the next step is the multi panel.
Connecting the Multi Panel and activating SPAD will also result here in running lights that show the presence of both panels. Star FSX, activate SPAD, select the Cessna Profile and in SPAD select the MultiPanel 1 tab.

In FSX: sit back with in cockpit view.

By default the FSUIPC offset is in place.
Turn the selector switch, push the buttons…it’s self explaining.
Don’t change anything. You may want to play with the sensitivity settings and the acceleration on the TRIM tab..

Personal I use High Sensitivity and Max Acceleration in the Cessna Profile.
OK, all set . Make a test flight to analyze your settings.

  1. Start FSX
  2. Activate SPAD
  3. Upper Radio Panel: NAV1 = 110,75 Activate
  4. Upper Radio Panel: NAV1 = 108,30 Activate (Freq. will swap!)
  5. Upper Radio Panel: NAV2 = 117,20 Activate
  6. Lower Radio Panel: ADF = 397,00 Switch to DME
  7. Multi Panel: ALT = 2700 ft

  9. Multi Panel: HDG = runway heading 035
  10. Multi Panel: Auto Throttle = off
  11. Multi Panel: FLAPS = up (0)
  12. Multi Panel: PITCH TRIM = move until lever is at TO position
  13. Don’t  push the AP button yet!
  14. Full Throttle, release brakes…GO!
  15. At ~75 knots you are airborne; press HDG and ALT (AP will light automatically)
  16. At  (2) DME 117.20 = 5,5 nm you will be in level flight; reduce spreed  to 90 knots
  17. At  (2) DME 117.20 = 8,5 nm activate NAV1=110,75 and press APR on the Muti Panel
  18. If you have intercepted ILS 110,75 press APR on the Multi Panel
  19. Stay in the glide slope and use throttle to maintain speed 60 kts
