IVAO_MTL Beta for P3D4

In this article we explained how to install IvAp v2 together with Prepar3D version 4. In the middle of that article we addressed the availability of an IVAO_MTL BETA version which can be used with Prepar3D Version 4 only.
This BETA version you can use when flying IVAO or use the contents for model matching when you fly in multi-play using JOINFS.
We like to share with you our experiences with this BETA.

Prepar3D Version 4 comes with these stock aircraft. For this reason there should not be a MTL model present in the database.

AC-130H
Beechcraft Baron 58 Beechcraft Bonanza A-36 Beechcraft King Air 350
C-130H  C-130J  C-130J-30 CH-53E Super Stallion
Extra 300s  Fury 1500  HC-130H   KC-130H
Lockheed C-69 Constellation Lockheed Electra 10A Lockheed L049 Constellation
Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor Lockheed Martin F-35A
Lockheed P-38 Lightning Maule Orion MH-60 Black Hawk
Mooney Acclaim Mooney Bravo Neptune Submersible Piper Cub Robinson R-22 UH-60 Black Hawk

For all other NON-STOCK aircraft that YOU could fly … the database provides 7900+ models-titles.

How to download and install

  1. After creating a full new IVAO_MTL_BETA we have removed the following folders for reason of creating content errors in P3D4 (reason is missing models): A310-CRJ2-CRJ7-D228-DC228-E120-F100-MIRA
  2. A number of errors (mostly typo’s in the aircraft.cfg-s) has been manualy corrected in our modified BETA.
  3. This modified BETA is available on our STACK with the following file name of which its file size is about 1,49 GB: IVAO_MTL_20180723_132958.RAR
  4. How to use this BETA? We suggest to activate the IVAO_MTL folder using an add-on.xml statement. The advantage is that when you don’t want to fly IVAO, you don’t need to activate 6,5 GB of information. And that saves time to load.
    This is how it works:

    1. When you have already a previous …\IVAO_MTL in …\Simobjects
    2. Cut/paste this folder from …\Simobjects into a folder e.g. disk F:\ and rename (after pasting) this folder into IVAO_MTL_ORG
    3. Download and unzip the BETA in the same disk e.g. F:\
    4. You now have 2 IVAO_MTL folders on that disk:
      1. F:\IVAO_MTL_ORG\
      2. F:\IVAO_MTL_20180723_132958\
      3. Remove the date and time from the last folder, so you have IVAO_MTL as folder name.

Using add-on.xml with IVAO_MTL

  1. In the Download you will find also an add-on.xml file. This file has the following contents:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <SimBase.Document Type="AddOnXml" version="4,0" id="add-on">
      <AddOn.Name>IVAO_MTL</AddOn.Name>
      <AddOn.Description>IVAO_MTL_BETA</AddOn.Description>
      <AddOn.Component>
        <Category>SimObjects</Category>
        <Path>F:\IVAO_MTL</Path>
        <Name>IVAO_MTL_BETA</Name>
      </AddOn.Component>
    </SimBase.Document>
  2. Open de the folder C:\Users\yourname\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\
  3. Create a folder \IVAO_MTL so you get C:\Users\yourname\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\IVAO_MTL\
  4. Place the add-on.xml in this folder.
  5. Then: Open the file add-on.xml with Notepad++ and adapt the <Path> as for your situation. Do not change the folder name, only the disk. Save the file.
  6. Now start P3D4 and it will ask you (when it is the first time you use xml) to activate the xml.
  7. Else, in P3D4 goto Options/Addons/ search the list for IVAO_MTL and activate the box to use the IVAO_MTL.
  8. Deactivate whenever you don’t want to use it.
  9. Remember(1) that the file size of this BETA is about 6,5 GB … so it will take some time to load the aircraft models…. be warned!
  10. Remember(2) that your previous IVAO_MTL has been pre-programmed in C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\simobjects.cfg.
    Since the IVAO_MTL folder has been removed, this statement in simobjects cfg does not harm. It will not find the folder as mentioned. Decide whether to remove it or leave it as it is.
  11. When you don’t want to use the xml method, just place the BETA version in …\Simobjects\ and you are all set.

Using full BETA version with JOINFS

  1. Start JOINFS, Open File/Scan Simobjects and fill in the section Additional maps the location of your IVAO_MTL then press scan and it will find 7900+ models …
  2. REMEMBER that when flying IVAO you must reindex the IVAO database for EVERY change in the IVAO_MTL folder, whatever the location of the folder is.

Creating a tailor made MTL folder with JOINFS

  1. The purpose of a MTL is to show the model+texture that YOU fly as a captain and could correctly be observed by other captains in a multi-play session.
  2. To create a common database you need a list of NON-STOCK aircraft models including the texture names that will possibly be used by YOU and/or seen in multiplay by your fellow club-members. In average you won’t need more than ~50 titles.
  3. Who is the coordinator? YOU? Then …
  4. Open the main folder on our STACK with this link
  5. Create a folder on a disk e.g. disk F:\MTL
  6. Drag and drop required folders into the local database …\MTL folder
  7. If you have too many models-textures… open the related model folder in your \MTL and remove the unwanted texture folders AND remove the information from that texture section named as [flightsim.nn] in the aircraft.cfg
  8. Start JOINFS, Open File/Scan Simobjects and fill in the section Additional maps the location of your F:\MTL then press scan and it will find the composed number of models.
