How to update P3D4.2 without errors


Download P3D and MD5 Check sum

  • Go to this link. (Will only work when P3D is ordered!)
  • First of all check that the license you bought are on your account page.
  • Step 1: download the instruction pdf and by all means: read them before you go!
  • Step 2: decide what you have to download:
    a. It is recommended to download the full version, where you can download the Full zip OR the individual components.
  • Step 3: Download the file(s) into your standard Windows download location which looks like C:/Users/yourname/Downloads/ and  DO NOT MOVE THE FILE(S)
    The compressed file you just downloaded is called: Prepar3D_v4_Academic_4.2.21.24048.zip

In the P3D instruction you will not find how to check your downloads. Read on !

REMINDER:
You will find your personal MD5 checksum on your Purchased Download page.

  • Step 4: After downloading the zip file(s), you better check the MD5 values.
    • To check the MD5 Check sum of the zip files, go here.
    • Download this FastSum program.
    • Open the program as administrator, press I agree button.
    • After the Fastsum program is opened, press the Files button in the right upper corner.
    • Then in the appearing windows explorer screen select the full zip file named: Prepar3D_v4_Academic_4.2.21.24048.zip
    • To check the MD5 value press the green start button to Run or press the F9 key.

 

  • Step 5: No error? OK so far? Then go to Step 8 else next step 6
    • Note: The fact that your MD5 values are correct does not guarantee that the extract process that follows hereafter will be without failures.
  • IT IS USELESS TO PROCEED WHEN THE MD5 CHECKSUM DOES NOT MATCH !
    INSTALLATION WILL RESULT IN AN UNPREDICTABLE STATE.
  • Step 6: extract the Prepar3D_v4_Academic_4.2.21.24048.zip into the folder that is created by the unzip action.
    • Foldername: Prepar3D_v4_Academic_4.2.21.24048
    • Remember that you need this folder later to run the update.
  • Step 7: Now check the MD5 values of all individual files in the folder.
    • The file of which the MD5 is not complying with the MD5 values should be replaced.
    • In your Prepar3D download area open the individual component list and download the related file.
    • Replace the file in your folder Prepar3D_v4_Academic_4.2.21.24048
    • Check the individual MD5 checksum to match with the MD5 table
  • Step 8: After extraction of the full zip  you get all the downloads as in the table Individual Component Downloads
    • Do not unzip any cab file !
    • If you have any trouble to complete the installation, check the individual MD5 checksum values of all zips and re-download those who show discrepancy.

IT IS USELESS TO PROCEED WHEN THE MD5 CHECKSUM DOES NOT MATCH !
INSTALLATION WILL RESULT IN AN UNPREDICTABLE STATE.

 

  • Step 9: When all the MD5 checksum values are OK, then start the update.
    • On the Windows 10 Start button select right mouse Apps and features
    • Search in the list with Prepar3D and you will see the 4 Prepar3D sections
    • Uninstall and then install in the following sequence
  • Step 10: Uninstall the Client;
    • Say NO when asked to remove the validation.
  • Step 11: Install the new Install_Client.msi
  • Step 12: Uninstall Content and install the new Install_Content.msi
  • Step 13: Uninstall Scenery and install the new Install_Scenery.msi
    The update will take approx. 15 minutes.
  • Check the fsuipc5.dll to be version 5.122+ (don’t use 5.123) the run the sim.
  • If you have any trouble executing as above, give me a buzz and we wil fix you remotely with a Skype or Teamviewer session.

Known Issue: message: “the account already exists”
What you could experience, during updating & uninstalling a previous Prepar3D v4 Academic Client, Content or Scenery that this message tells you “the account already exists”. When clicking OK or close with X, the update process stops.
